The Holly Point Nature Park is home to the Deltaville Maritime Museum,

 hosts the Deltaville Farmer's Market and 

showcases quite a few gardens.  

It's also home to F.D.Crockett a restored buyboat that is listed on the 

National Register of Historic Places and

 the Virginia Landmarks Register

and the Explorer

a replica of Captain John Smith's boat.

Motive Votives

During my visit to the Deltaville Farmer's Market, 

I came across a vendor selling cute votive candle holders in an array of colors and patterns.  

Speaking with one of the women working the booth, 

I learned that these votives were made by homeless veterans 

and that a portion of the proceeds went to helping them.

We of course purchased 4.

(And looking at this photo I'm wishing I purchased more- like the patriotic ones. 

Hopefully they have a booth at Heritage Days this weekend!)

What is Motive Votive? Motive Votives are beautiful creations meant to inspire the receiver and encourage the people who make them. Who makes them? Art & Seafood Fest

This past October, I went to the Holly Point Nature Center's Art & Seafood Fest in Deltaville. Honestly, what prompted me to go was the promise of a living history group know as Blackbeard's Pirates. The Brat Child is a pirate fanatic.

 My mother and I were pleasantly surprised at the number of vendors and at the quality of their wares.  It was a warm but not hot day, and though it was well attended, the set up gave plenty of room to walk around and browse.  I purchased a nice flounder wineglass and some character inspired ice cream.  I also found a very cool iron flying pig key or business card holder (everyone needs one). 

Mom bought a parrot wineglass. 

There were pony rides, interesting things made from metal and a train display (BC is also a huge train fanatic).

The pierwalk was also open.

It was a gorgeous day and one of the best weekends I've had. 

Can't wait to go again in 2011.
