Sunset

Sunset Piankatank River
I had this whole blog post planned out.
I wrote it in my head while driving.
It was great.
It was positive.
All about how I was going to "let the sun set" on my worries and issues
and push myself to be more content.
There was even a little math humor thrown in
about having a goal of 3 blog posts a week on 3 different blogs
(I mis-multiplied, it was funny, trust me)
But because of more crap news about a particularly stressful
craptastic situation,
I just don't have the heart to be amusing
(except for using the word craptastic which is mildly barely amusing).
It seems that I'm in the Land of the Midnight Sun
and I don't know when the sunset is going to be.
Like knowing exactly when to end those annoying repetitive songs.
Like Michael Finnegan of the whiskers on his chin-a-gan.
Despite that, I'm going to push forward with the goal
of 3 per week per blog (3) which is 9 per week
not 27 like I thought this morning.
Starting next week.
Because eventually the sun sets even in the Land of the Midnight Sun.

And for your listening pleasure...

Monday Meditation

After you have exhausted what there is in business, politics, conviviality, and so on - have found that none of these finally satisfy, or permanently wear - what remains? Nature remains.

Full to the Gunwales

We were lucky enough to be invited aboard our neighbor's sailboat Stormalong.

It was a gorgeous day to sail the Pianktank River.

Midge, her friend Lizard, the Brat Child and Rita the dog were all smiles at the start of our adventure.

Rita is an old paw at sailing.

Our neighbor Dutch piloted the boat with ease and confidence and made me consider taking sailing lessons and buying a small sailboat.

And my mom loved her perch out on the bow.

It was a gorgeous day enjoying a new experience.
Afterwards, we all went back to the marina to enjoy the pool.
According to the Brat Child, the pool was the best part of the entire vacation.

What River is This?

When I was  little, my mother would always play a game referred to as : "What river is this?".  Each time we traveled to Deltaville, my mom would ask what river we were driving over.  Whenever we would cross a bridge, I was always asked, "what river is this?" in a sing-songy way.  My daughter never liked the game and once she could read, she would simply wait to answer after she was able to see the sign.  My son, however, loves the game and embraces it wholeheartedly.  When asked what river it is, he usually replies with "I don't know" in he same sing-song fashion as the question was asked.  But surprisingly at the age of 3, he was able to come up with the names.... sort of.

The Piankatank that we travel over on our way to Mathews or Gloucester became the Piankahannock.

The Rappahannock which is the river our place is located on became the Rappahanatank.

But my all time favorite was the time we drove through West Point across the Pamunkey, that became the Pot Monkey (I've known a few of those in my time).
