One of Those Days

Today, I'm doing something different.
I'm pretty sure  there are some who can relate to this in much the same way I do.
And when you encounter someone who is being an A-Hole, instead of listening to what they are saying, imagine that what they are really saying is "I have a furry butt."

Full to the Gunwales

We were lucky enough to be invited aboard our neighbor's sailboat Stormalong.

It was a gorgeous day to sail the Pianktank River.

Midge, her friend Lizard, the Brat Child and Rita the dog were all smiles at the start of our adventure.

Rita is an old paw at sailing.

Our neighbor Dutch piloted the boat with ease and confidence and made me consider taking sailing lessons and buying a small sailboat.

And my mom loved her perch out on the bow.

It was a gorgeous day enjoying a new experience.
Afterwards, we all went back to the marina to enjoy the pool.
According to the Brat Child, the pool was the best part of the entire vacation.

Monday Meditation

"Insane people are always sure they are fine.  It is only the sane people who are willing to admit that they are crazy."

I am in no way suggesting the individual shown
in this photo is crazy- quite the opposite.

Thinking about everyone down in the Tidewater region of VA.
Hope you weathered Irene okay and are powered up soon!

Stating the Obvious

Kayaking Sturgeon Creek

There is nothing better than spending time on the water.
During our vacation this year, my mother and I rented a couple of kayaks from Lazy Days Kayak Rentals.
(We have rented from her several times and highly recommend using her).
Mom and the Brat Child who looked very much like an
Egyptian Prince being rowed down the Nile.
He's 'Pecial dontchaknow.
Midge and her friend Lizard.
I was secretly hoping one of them would fall in so I could get the shot.

We kayaked clear out to the Rivah (that would be the Rappahannock for those of you who don't know).
Or the Rappahannatank according to the Brat Child.
It could also be the Piankahannock, I don't remember.
Brat Child with his Grandma
There is a large sandbar that stretches out into the river.
It makes for a great place to swim.

When I asked them to pose, the Brat Child said "Everyone say Hot Girls!"
I'm slightly concerned about kindergarten.

Antiquing

Along route 14 headed towards Gloucester, there is an antique place called Holly Hill Farm.  My grandmother always mentioned it when we talked about going into Gloucester.  She had visited there once and enjoyed touring all the barns, outbuildings and even the house.  She enjoyed the company of the owner and proprietor.  I had never managed to visit the place myself, though I've purchased items from their stands at various festivals in the area.  So on our "shopping day" during vacation, I talked everyone into stopping by.
The teenagers were less than thrilled to be looking at old things.
The Brat Child was thrilled because he was given a marble by the owner and was sure there was some pirate treasure there.
There were a lot of chairs.

I did managed to come across the exact kind of small table I had been thinking of getting for my entryway.
There were other treasures that I plan on going back for.
Anyone else think this sign is amusing?

So if you enjoy sorting through old things, or touring old buildings, I suggest checking out Holly Hill Farm

The Unexpected

Sometimes a twister comes along, carries you to a place over the rainbow and drops a house on someone's sister.

And sometimes a twister comes along and plants a watermelon seed in your otherwise barren yard.

And if a watermelon growing in your yard wasn't unexpected enough.

A yellow watermelon is certainly a most unexpected surprise.
And it was ripe and very sweet.
And with it came some seriously sweet memories of an epic watermelon fight of my youth.
